Diego Arguedas Ortiz is a science reporter and university lecturer on journalism. He’s founding editor at Ojo al Clima, Central America’s first-ever news outlet devoted to climate change. Between 2013 and 2017, he covered the negotiations under the UN Climate Convention and the impact of and solutions to climate change in Costa Rica and Central America. In 2013 he joined La Nación (Costa Rica) as science reporter and in 2014 moved to weekly Semanario Universidad (Costa Rica), where he launched Ojo al Clima in 2015. His work in English and Spanish has been published in international outlets such as Climate Home, Inter Press Service, Fusion, SciDev.Net, Le Monde Diplomatique (German) and Univision. He has covered issues such as environmental conflicts, human rights, science and technology, and local and international politics. He reported the adoption of the Paris Agreement (2015) from France and the surge in Central American unaccompanied minors arriving in the US (2014) from the ground at the US-Mexico Border. He’s currently studying the MA Climate Change: History, Culture, Society at King’s College London as a Chevening Scholar. At his home university, Universidad de Costa Rica, he lectured in journalism and gave guest lectures in climate change communication. Starting 2016, he joined the Global Shapers San Jose Hub, the local chapter of a global youth leadership network created by the World Economic Forum.
